Success!

I have triumphed over the Essay! I have finished! All 2044 words of it. Now I have all of tomorrow to worry about my presentation, finish proof reading and pack for the weekend! Epic Success!

Getting there!

I've now done 1539 words of the 2000, I've done some research for my presentation, I've done all the preperation for tomorrow's seminar class (I've even written down some possible interesting points to come up with spontaniously...) and I've done laundry. I'm trying to avoid having to pull my first university all nighter, and I'm feeling almost on top of things. Which possibly might change tomorrow, but I'm hoping for the best! Now it's time for sleep!

All Alone Again

I'm all alone again with my mountains of work. I'm researching Victorian Stereotypes of Jews and how they were portrayed in the literature of the time for my essay due in on Friday, and also researching the Poor Law and Marxist views on Oliver Twist for my class presentation (also on Friday) I also have seminar prep to do as well as reading for lectures. It's a little intense but it's all good. Time to knuckle down now I think!

The Americans are coming.

My friend from camp arrived today, which is super exciting, it's been really nice chatting and catching up and being able to talk camp for hours :) We hung out with my American friend who studies here, it was a little odd being the only English person hanging out with a bunch of Americans in England, but still. I felt a little bit bad because we mainly talked about camp which meant that my other friend couldn't really join in... Still am having great fun. I'm going to have to leave her behind in the house when I go to Lacross tomorrow, which isn't ideal but hey ho.

Getting ready for the weekend

This weekend I have a friend from Camp coming up to stay with me in York, this involves tidying my room so there is physically space for her as well as some laundry so she has a clean sheet, buying some more food, and possibly doing some pre-emptive cooking. Who knew having guests over was so much work? I probably also need to get on with some work as I don't know how much I will get done over the next couple of days while she's here. Still it's going to be worth it.

Talking of work, I had my first meeting with my tutor yesterday, she seems lovely but very young, American and enthusiastic, which basically translates as meaning I now have a 25 minute presentation to prepare for next week as well as a 2500 word essay AND a research proposal. Plus research into crime and criminality to do for tomorrow's session as well. I might just expire.

Also today's the day for handing in final drafts of the Mount Holyoke application! I can't decide if it's more scary or exciting! Hopefully I will find out soon since I will have to find somewhere to live if I'm not going. I potentially have a house and people to live with, but I'll need to commit soon or they will have to find someone to replace me or find a new house. It's all very stressful.

Hayden's Seasons

Uni choir are singing Hayden's Seasons this term, which is actually much harder than it looks, possibly because for some reason I can't make it make sense in my head, instead it just confuses me. Also I get distracted because the lyrics are printed in three languages, English, German and French and I spend alot of time trying to figure out the differences in the translation. We're actually singing the piece in German as well, which brings it's own challenges since I have to concentrate really hard so as not to slip into a Dutch accent but stick with everyone else's bad fake German accent. Still it sounds really nice except when the Sopranos sing the really high note that hurts my ears.

That's just not Cricket!

I hurt, EVERYWHERE! There was definetely much more running involved in Cricket than I had expected. Also alot more banter. But it was really fun. There are three Ellens on the team including me which leads to confusion sometimes but it's pretty funny. I think I might actually keep it up, since it's funny and we have a laugh, and all the girls seem really nice. Although I am entirely rubbish, and I keep being told I throw like a girl... which considering I am a girl I think is a bit of a strange comment!

Raining

I was supposed to go on a run with the Lacrosse girls today instead of Lacrosse practice but it is raining... it is raining hard, in fact you might say it is like a sea with vertical slots in. I got up and looked out the window, realised it was raining got dressed in weather appropriate running gear, had breakfast and then checked my email and realised the run was cancelled and got back into bed with some fun Victorian reading. Successful day so far I say!

Fancy Tea

Last night I went to bed early with a mug of fancy tea. It was a rather excellent 'Calm' blend with 'chamomile, rose petals and soothing herbs'. So I had an early night and woke up this morning all refreshed. It has been nice getting settled in at uni and meeting all my friends and everything, but now I probably should get back to reading and preparing for my supervision on Friday and my first seminar on Wednesday.
